BS 10119 is the British Standard code of practice, published by BSI, for the provision of labour to the security and events sectors. It sets out best practice for organisations that supply security officers or event staff, whether directly employed or engaged as bought-in labour, covering recruitment, vetting, licensing, contracts, pay, working conditions and ongoing oversight of the personnel they provide.
At Tritact® Consulting, we provide expert BS 10119 consultancy to help labour providers, staffing agencies and security companies prepare for independent certification by an accredited certification body, giving your clients confidence that the personnel you supply meet recognised standards. Our team of experienced consultants works closely with you to build a compliant, practical management system that fits the way you operate, rather than adding unnecessary bureaucracy.

BS 10119 is the British Standard successor to COP 119, the security industry's original code of practice for labour provision. If your business already holds, or is working towards, COP 119, read our COP 119 services page to see how the two relate and how Tritact can support your move to BS 10119.

Who needs BS 10119 certification?
BS 10119 applies to any business supplying labour into the regulated security and events sector, including manned guarding, event security, stewarding and crowd management, whether that labour is directly employed or supplied by a third party. It's relevant to small, medium and large labour providers, and is increasingly requested by the security companies and event organisers who buy in that labour.
What you get from BS 10119 certification
Access to more contracts
Many security companies and event organisers now only work with certified labour suppliers, so certification puts you on their approved list instead of ruling you out before you've even quoted.
Proof your staff are properly vetted
You get documented evidence, in writing, that everyone you supply has been through proper recruitment, right-to-work and licence checks, so you can show clients exactly what "vetted" means.
Fewer disputes over pay and hours
Clear, consistent pay and working-time records mean fewer arguments with staff or clients about hours worked and money owed.
You'll sail through client audits
When a client's compliance team, the SIA or HMRC comes asking questions, your paperwork is already in order, so audits become a formality rather than a scramble.
Eligibility for tenders
A growing number of procurement frameworks list this certification as a mandatory entry requirement, meaning without it you can't even submit a bid.
No last-minute scramble in 2027
COP 119 is being withdrawn by 30 September 2027. Moving to BS 10119 now means you're not left racing to requalify when everyone else does the same.
